Nordea Asset Management’s (NAM) commitment to responsible asset management is not new. In fact, our journey began over a decade ago when we were one of the first to sign the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI). Sustainability and responsible investment are deeply rooted in our Nordic DNA and in that of our parent group, Nordea.
We strive to offer our clients responsible solutions that combine returns and responsibility. We are convinced that we can add value for our clients by actively incorporating environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) issues into analysis and investment decisions, especially through investment research, asset allocation and supervision of the performance. We recognize that the integration of the ESG aspects is part of our fiduciary duty to clients and beneficiaries and we want to see their portfolios managed in a way that systematically assess the long-term risk and profitability factors. Our ESG analysis is an integral part of our investment processes.
As part of NAM’s aspiration to generate returns in a responsible manner, we have created a family of investment funds, called Stars, which incorporates ESG factors into valuation models and consists of companies that meet our ESG standards. Portfolio managers use thematic research, field trips, ESG analysis and engagement to ensure quality. As our commitment to responsible investment grows, we have expanded our STARS fund range to include the Nordea 1 – North American Stars Equity Fund. In 2018, we sponsored more than a dozen ESG events throughout Europe, including ESG Day in Madrid’s Jardin Botanico with Spainsif and ESG VIP luncheons in Spain.
